VSRP

Contributed by Sheryl Mathew (VSRP summer research fellow, 2016) Visiting Students’ Research Programme (VSRP) is a summer research programme held by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). Dates: 1 st  week of May - 1 st  week of July  every year .  Eligibility: 2 nd /3 rd  year Bachelor’s students and all Master’s students. Application Procedure The application is online and available at TIFR’s VSRP website. After a basic registration where you specify your desired subject area for the project (Physics, Mathematics etc.), you’ll be emailed a link for filling the application. Materials Needed In the application, the relevant courses you’ve taken, your CPI and 10 th /12 th  std. marks have to be typed-in. ICTS - Amey Gaikwad

In my second year summer, I was selected to work with the String group over a period of 8 weeks at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR), Bangalore as one of the 20 students chosen from India as a part of the SN Bhatt Memorial Excellence Fellowship Program 2017. Application Process: I had applied only to the Indian institutes as I did not deem it necessary to go for abroad internships due to limited time and most importantly due to my extremely narrow research interest (theoretical + String oriented). Due to the naivety at the time, I applied to just 4 institutes in India. Fortunately, I got selected for the SN Bhatt program which has a very rigorous selection criteria. The Place: Bangalore has a very cool and pleasant climate, serving as a nice change from the humidity of Mumbai. The institute is located away from the hustle and bustle of city life. ISSAA - IUCAA Summer School

Contributed by: Sheetal Jain ISSAA stands for the Introductory Summer School in Astronomy and Astrophysics. It is held at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. It takes place for 5 weeks in the months of May-June every even-numbered year. Only students completing their second year are eligible to apply (so there is a 50-50 chance for you to be able to join this school). Application The application usually opens in January and the deadline is in late February. It is an online form with you requiring to upload the following documents: Two-page resume   Statement of Purpose   1 recommender’s information (reference letter will be uploaded directly)   Transcript Allowances/Stipends Travel allowance is given/reimbursed, contingent to producing the railway ticket stub on arrival. UTSIP

It is a 7 week long internship program that takes place in June-July in the Kashiwa Campus of the University of Tokyo, Japan. Application This program opens as a JAF/IAF via the Placement Cell (PT Cell) for our department. One needs to sign the JAF via the IIT-B portal as a first step (only resume is required). University of Tokyo also hosts a separate online portal for applications, which needs to be filled as well. Requirements/Materials needed Since the internship opens via the PT Cell, it has some CPI cutoffs, which seem to vary from year to year. SRFP

Summer Research Fellowship Program (SRFP) Contributed by: Arkya Chatterjee (SRFP summer research fellow, 2017) SRFP is a two-month summer fellowship/internship program conducted by the three National Science Academies - Indian Academies of Science (Bangalore), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi), and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Allahabad). Eligibility Criteria While applying, students must be in their 2nd/3rd year (if BTech), or 2nd/3rd/4th year (if DD). The other requirement is that the minimum percentage in core subjects from tenth std. should be 65% or above.
