SN Bose Scholars Program

S. N. Bose scholars program provides an opportunity for students to do a summer internship in the US.

Eligibility Criterion

The department nominates 2 students from each batch, nomination is generally on the basis of CPI. Note that you cannot directly apply unless the department nominates you. The nomination is through a form included in the online application, which has to be signed by the Faculty advisor and the HoD.

Application Requirements

The entire application is through an online portal on the website.
  • 2 letters of recommendation which have to be sent directly
  • A statement of purpose describing your interests and your proposed topics of interest
  • A current research experience statement which lists all your projects
  • Copy of your transcript
  • Nomination from the department signed by HoD and Faculty advisor
  • NoC from IITB

Timeline

  • The application deadline is generally October.
  • Results are announced in January
Once the results are announced, they ask you to send in a list of preferred mentors. They try to contact the mentors from their side as well as you are also asked to write to people. In case you don’t have a list, they do their best to find a mentor for you.

Scholarship

  • $ 2000
  • Upto $ 500 for health insurance
  • Tickets for travel to US

Personal advice: 

If you know that you are eligible on the basis of your CPI, then you should really start working on the SoPs as soon as you can. Since your CV is not asked for, your SoP is where you can say all about your experience. Hence, it pays off to work hard on them.
It is also a good idea to have a preferred list of people who you want to work with even before the results are announced. Else, a lot of time can be wasted in scrambling for mentors after you get selected.
