EP 409 Applied Solid State Physics (Spring 2016-17)

Pre-requisites: Introduction to CMP will help but one can do both in parallel

Course Content: Boltzmann Transport, Magnetism and its origins, Heisenberg Model, Spin chains, Superconductivity (Very Basic), Semiconductors (Diodes) 

Other Topics Covered: Cyclotron resonance

Books: There is no one book for this course. Although Solid state physics by Ascroft and Mermin would be useful for some parts of the course. Remaining materials was uploaded by the instructor

Lectures: Lecture quality was superb. There is no attendance policy. Although it would be extremely difficult to follow if one doesn't attend classes. Everything was taught on blackboard

Assignments: There was one take home quiz which was easy.

Exams and Grading: Questions in the exam are really good and will require deep thinking. Grading is a little harsh

Pro-Tips: Attend all the classes. In my experience this was the heaviest course I had done in 4 years in terms of content taught.
