EP 426 Physics of Quantum Devices (Spring 2017-18)
Instructor Name: Prof. S. Dhar
Course Type: Theory
Pre-requisites:PH 107, EE 112
Course Content: Foundation Principles(Semiconductor Physics, Interfaces, Carrier Transport), Devices(MOSFEL, SET, Solar Cells)
Other topics covered: Band Structure, Electron Densities
Books: Physics of semiconductor devices by Michael Shur (Prentice-Hall)
Lectures: Relaxed attendance policy (after placements and univ apps sem), Surprise Quizzes though, Slides self-explanatory, loads of long and tedious derivations (ripe with random integrations) done on board, but rarely used.
Assignments:Some rather unreasonable tutorials uploaded, all solved in class, but usually pretty tough and not asked in exams, NO assignments
Exams and Grading: Surprise and Announced Quizzes (30%), Midsem (30%) and Endsem (40%)
Online material:Didn't refer any!
Follow-up Courses:
Pro-tips: Attend lectures (as much as possible) and do not regret if anything goes wrong in the course (its the last sem for most)
Don't get panicked by the math done in class, slides and past papers suffice in exam preparation
Personal Comments:Full honest disclosure, was in the last sem, so didn't bother much about the course, and Prof. wasn't altogether friendly with me, so ended up missing many (most) lectures and surprise quizzes too, but got a good grade in the end
Try to be as sincere as you can in this course, and do not overthink anything related to this course (or this sem)
