EP 412

Instructor: Pramod Kumar
Course Name: Nanomaterials, Nanostructure and Nanofabrication (EP 412)
Course Type: Theory (Core)
Credits: 6
Prerequisites: EP 425 : Introduction to Nanoscience
Course Content:
1. Possible novel nanostructures : Quantum Well, Quantum Dot
2. Different approaches of fabrication
3. In detail different processes of fabrications : Electron Beam Lithography, Atomic Force Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Nano Imprint Lithography, Photolithography
Books:
Nanostructures and Nanomaterials by Guozhong Cao
Lectures:
No attendence policy. The teaching style was more of blackboard oriented, at some rare points the slides were utilized. Being the first time the structure of the course was not as good as expected. The first 25% regarding nanostructures was completely filled with chemistry and many of the chemical name jargons. One of the good part of the course was each one presenting a research paper related to some of the novel nanofabrication innovation around the world.
Assignments:
Assignment was writing out a summary of the paper presented.
Exams and Grading:
Exams were heavily dependent on memory and little on concept. This is not so surprising given the nature of the materials taught in class. A good score in the exams for this course definitely requires not only attending the lectures but writing detailed notes.
Follow-Up Courses:
EP432: Physics of nanostructures and nanoscale devices is a good course where lot of the physics part is covered
Respondent: Parth Jatakia
